iCSP Glossary

A list of terms to help you get the most from iCSP.

Accessibility A special page has been designed to tell you more about how we have made our site more accessible and open to all our members, click HERE for more information.
Add Enables you to quickly move to your chosen type of add content form.
Add content By clicking on the ‘Add content’ button in each content section you can add your own content to the site.
Added by Your iCSP user name will be displayed as the ‘added by’ person for content that you contribute to the iCSP site.
Address Bar The Address bar in your web browser is where you type the website address (‘URL’) of an internet web site you wish to see. You can move your cursor into the Address Bar by keeping ‘ALT’ on your keyboard pressed down while you press the letter ‘D’.
Advanced search Search within the iCSP site either by date, content section or keyword, or all three at the same time.
All content A selection box that contains a list of predefined categories/terms/key words that were determined the group running the network. Selecting a category will limit the search results to those items of content that have been identified as relating to that category
Antivirus Program A program that runs on your computer looking for viruses. If it finds them, it guides you on how to deal with the virus. The antivirus program should be regularly updated
Approved content Content approved by a network moderator. Approved content is displayed on the iCSP web site, discussions are retrospectively approved
Article (news) Description given to news items posted to the iCSP news sections.
Attach a document Enables you add a single file to an add content form, just like you would do when you attach a file to an email.
Attachment A file (for example, a document) associated with an item of content.
Author Displays the accredited owner or author of the item of content.
A-Z filter Letters of the alphabet are displayed above some listings. Click on a letter of the alphabet filter content titles by that letter.
Back button Web browsers contain back and forward buttons that enable your to move through your historically visited web sites.
Back links Clicking on a ‘Back’ link takes you back to the last section you visited.
Backup Duplicate copy of a file or text that is stored somewhere safe.
Board/health authority Regional area to which you are associated. You can change this by changing your Health Authority/board at the bottom of the Your Personal details form in the Your account section
Browse button Displayed within some add content forms, to enable you to navigate through the content of your computer, a disc or any other data storage device, in order to find a file, which you can then attach to the form.
Browser - web Program on your computer that you use to explore the internet e.g. Internet explorer or Firefox.
Bulletin (email) Sent electronically bi weekly or monthly with links to the latest content that has been added to your network. You can opt out of receiving bulletins in the Your account section, ‘Change email subscriptions’
Cancel button Stops you proceeding with the task on the screen or takes you back one screen on iCSP site.
Choose your network Click on the tab where you see the text ‘Choose your network’ to select one of the networks you have subscribed to from the drop-down menu and press ‘Go’.
CIOG Clinical interest and occupational group.
Column title (discussion) You can order lists of discussions by clicking on the titles of columns in the list, for example, ‘Title’, ‘date’ or ‘Author’.
Contact iCSP Send a message to the system moderator if you need help, guidance or have found a problem with the iCSP site.
Contact moderator Send a message to the moderator.
Content Items of information that appear on iCSP within the various sections news, events, sharing practice, discussion and exchange, useful web site and documents.
Content counter Indicates the how many items of content are displayed on the current page and the total number available to be viewed. For example 1 to10 of 50 indicates items 1 to 10 are displaying with a further 40 to be displayed on the next pages
Content expired Items of content that are no longer useful or relevant are removed from iCSP
Content categories The categories of all the networks together form a thesaurus of organised language/terms which can be used for searching on iCSP web site and which organises the content of the site. This means that items of content can be viewed on many networks, according to the categories assigned to them by the moderators.
Content Category filter When you have clicked on a section within a particular network (e.g. ‘News’ or ‘Documents’) a drop-down menu appears with all the categories for that network, which you can select in order to filter the content according to that category. If you have not first selected a particular network to look at, you will not see the categories, as each network has different categories.
Content items – site statistics Total number of items of content on the site.
Copy Text can be highlight ed and copied in to the computer’s memory to then paste into another location. ‘Ctrl’ and ‘C’ can be used as a quick keyboard shortcut.
Copyright Protection of one’s published material. Copyrighted information cannot be distributed or copied without the owners prior permission.
CPD Continuing professional development. You can evidence your CPD by printing out ‘Your contributions’ (see the left hand side, at the bottom, and click on ‘View your contributions’).
Cursor Insertion point on the computer screen, often marked with a flashing line or block. This is to show you where your text will appear when you start to type.
Cut Moves text from one document and place it in another. To cut, will store the text to then paste into another location. ‘Ctrl’ and ‘X’ can be used as a quick keyboard shortcut.
Data Protection Policy Principles and rules for anyone processing personal data. Personal data covers both facts and opinions about the individual. It also includes information regarding the intentions of the data controller towards the individual, although in some limited circumstances exemptions will apply
Data protection statement (CSP) Statement that sets out the actual data protection statement CSP has and standards upon which the iCSP site will be run, see privacy statement
Deactivate your account Use this to unsubscribe completely from the iCSP service.
Default Some add content forms may have options already selected for you
Directory - folder The name for an area where a group of files are stored together for organisational purposes.
Directory path Address of a file on your computer, for example:
C:\My Documents\Physio\Protocol.doc
Discussion and exchanges – on iCSP If you need a quick answer, have a specific issue or problem, want to reach a lot of people, or have a once and for all query, the Discussion forum is the place in which you can do this
Document date The date upon which a document was created, published or printed.
Documents – on iCSP Searchable store of valuable documents and information.
Documents - within Your CSP region All geographically relevant documents pertaining to the area you work and/or live in.
Download To request and receive a file, program or data from the internet to your computer. Also See ‘Upload’.
Download - iCSP Transfer of files or data to your personal computer. All files on iCSP are free to download.
Download title Within the documents add content form. Description/name given to the file contributed to the iCSP site.
Drop-down list Type of selection box. Appears as a box with an arrow at the right hand side. Click on the arrow lists terms which you can select only one.
Email Short for electronic mail. An electronic version of writing and posting a letter. iCSP sends TEXT ONLY & HTML emails which cannot contain viruses.
Email bulletin See ‘Bulletin
Your email subscription Subscribe to receive e-mail bulletins from a network. You can change your subscriptions in ‘Your Account’.
Events – iCSP Lists the forthcoming events that are taking place.
Events - within Your CSP region All geographically relevant event listings pertaining to the area you work and/or live in.
Favourites A list of internet sites saved within your web browser for quick repeated access.
Field Fields can be different areas displayed to you on a web page. Each of which is defined: for example the ‘Title’ field is the part of the form where you type the title of a piece of content.
Filter Enables you to filter data according to criteria you select.
Find Enables you to quickly find content relating to the chosen content category.
Folder - files Area where files and material can be stored for easy access at a later time. Sometimes called a “directory”.
Forgotten login Ask iCSP to send your personal account details to you so you can gain access to the site. A simple form is completed and submitted.
Full user A full user has access to all parts of iCSP. (See also: interest group user, guest user, student user.)
Go Displayed on the iCSP web site. This button must be clicked after choosing a network you wish to view, or typing a key word in the search feature, or selecting a network category.
Google

The most commonly used Internet Search Engine. The web address for Google is http://www.google.co.uk/

Guest membership number If you are not a member of the CSP, you will have been given a special guest membership number.
Guest user Guest users can gain access to Profession-wide, CSP region and all public networks, and access to ‘Your iCSP’, but cannot contribute content.(See also: interest group user, full user, student user )
Having problems? A having problems link is displayed on the login page to provide help if you are having problems logging in.
Headline news Important news that is making the headlines, displayed on profession-wide page.
Health Authority/Board You need to state your health authority/board when you register, as this will determine what Your CSP region will be.
Help and guidance Area of iCSP that contains information and documents that will help you get the most out of iCSP.
Highlight (highlighting text) When you hold down your mouse and drag it across an area of text, the text becomes ‘highlighted’, which is usually indicated by it being visible in reverse colours.
Highlight - Homepage highlights Items that have been selected by a moderator as being worth highlighting on the home page of a region or network homepage. Click on the title to go straight to the item.
Hot topic Important highlighted discussion(s) selected for display on the network homepage and profession wide areas.
Hyperlink Connections between one piece of information and another. In your web browser they appear as text underlined and clickable.
Hypertext Text that can be clicked upon which causes another document or web page to be retrieved and displayed.
iCSP Abbreviation of the interactiveCSP website name.
InteractiveCSP Our electronic peer to peer networking and sharing tool for all CSP members and invited guests to use free of charge.
Interest group user User who has access to their network on iCSP, but no other sections. (See also: full user, guest user, student user.)
Internet A collection of independent, interconnected computer networks that connect computers together for the purpose of sending and receiving of information/data
Internet Address A unique combination of letters, usually starting with ‘http’ or ‘www’. (Also called a ‘URL’)
Internet Explorer An Internet browser program manufactured by Microsoft. You can download this for free from the Microsoft website.
IT (information technology) IT is a term that encompasses the physical elements of computing, including servers, networks and desktop computing and enables digital information to be created, stored, used and shared.
Key theme Each network has key themes to categorise content. You can use the network category filter to view and sort content on the network according to these themes.
Keyword search Use keywords in the iCSP search feature to search for content.
Latest region content Found only within Your CSP region, it rounds up of all the latest items of content added to your geographical region.
Link Links are electronic connections between web sites. Links will take you quickly to another web site or page within the same site.
Link address (URL) Web site address you want others to go to if they were to click on the link.
Link title Title that can be given to a web site address that will displayed instead of the actual address.
List view (on iCSP) Summary listing of content for quick scanning. Read the item in full by clicking on the content title.
Login (on iCSP) To access iCSP you must enter your username and password at the following address www.interactivecsp.org.uk and click on the ‘submit’ button. This is what we call ‘logging in’ to the site.
Logout (on iCSP) Logout (to be found to the right of the tabs along the top of the iCSP site) will end your active session within iCSP. This will stop unauthorised access to the iCSP site.
Membership number This will either be your CSP membership number, or if you are not a member of the CSP, a guest membership number given to you by CSP.
Monitored discussions Enables you to view and remove discussions that you are watching/viewing on the iCSP web site. Click here to go to 'Your monitored discussions'
Moderator Each network and region on iCSP has a group of moderators who review the content posted to iCSP and decide whether it can be approved for viewing on the site.
Monitoring (a discussion on iCSP) Monitoring a discussion on iCSP means that whenever replies are received to a monitored discussion, you can receive an e-mail notification containing a link to that reply.
My Computer My Computer icon in the top left corner of your Windows desktop enables you to access any disk drives you have connected to your PC.
Navigate To move around a web site using the web links displayed on the page.
Network You can choose to view different networks according to your personal interests. Networks group together content on the site according to the clinical interests of the network.
Network information Detailed information pertaining to your network, its moderators and subscription/contact information i.e. How to join, how to get involved and network aims.
Network welcome homepage Networks you have joined have their own home page which enable you to access all content relating to your interest and importantly highlight new and important content.
Network wide documents Listing of all document items that have a UK wide target audience
Network wide events Listing of all events items that have a UK wide target audience
Network wide news A listing of all news articles that have a UK wide target audience
Network wide sharing practice A listing of all sharing practice items that have a UK wide target audience
Network-wide Content that is relevant to all members of the network not just a one specific region
New content items in the last 7 days Items of content that have been added to the iCSP site within a 7 day rolling period
New window A new window in your web browser, open a new window using ‘Ctrl’ and ‘N’. When opening useful websites and file attachments within iCSP it opens in a new window
News - within Your CSP region All geographically relevant news items pertaining to the area you work and/or live in.
News (on iCSP) Displays a listing of new related items of content.
Page not found Items of content that are no longer useful or relevant are removed from iCSP
Paste Insert previously copied text using the ‘Ctrl’ and ‘V’, this will paste the text to wherever your cursor is.
Pop-up window A small new window that appears when a button or link is clicked on.
Post To post something on a website, for example, to post a discussion, is to input it (for example using add content), so that it is sent to the website.
Print page Best way to print an item of content is to click on ‘Print page’ - this will open in a new window including the content you want to print but without the menus etc. so that you get a clean copy. Keyboard shortcut ‘ALT’ and ‘P’ then ‘Enter’ button.
Privacy statement Sets out the standards of privacy and security upon which the iCSP site is run.
Profession-wide tab The ‘Profession-wide’ tab on iCSP is where you will find the iCSP site homepage, containing general News and Highlights, as well as ‘Your latest content’. Content will have been brought hear if it is of general interest to the profession.
Profession-wide iCSP site homepage highlights content from across the site, and is the first page you see when you have logged in. Each network and region also has its own homepage.
Programme tile A tile, usually in the Task Bar at the bottom of your screen, which when pressed opens the program it relates to so that you can see it. The tile will have the name of the file on it and a logo of the programme which the file is associated to.
Public networks Public networks are open and offer immediate access to all iCSP members.
Region You are assigned a region which you can view at anytime within Your CSP Region. The region is based on your Health authority/board. Change your region by changing your Health Authority/board at the bottom of the Personal Details form in the ‘Your iCSP’ section.
Regional highlights Important and key items of content that have been selected by the regional moderators as highlights.
Regional information Detailed information pertaining to a CSP board, its work, its board members and contact information.
Region specific – within a network Region-specific content relates only to a particular region. The region-specific content that you see is all related to the region that you are associated to you (change your associated region by changing your Health Authority at the bottom of the Personal Details form in the ‘Your iCSP’ section)
Register To establish a user name and password that can be used to access the iCSP site.
Registered users A site statistic that displays the number of users registered to the site, your CSP region or network depending of the actual page you are looking at.
Registering ‘ Register’ will enable you to view and complete an online registration form for iCSP that will establish your interests, and provide you with a username and password.
Relevant to filter Enables you to search Events or Sharing practice items to find content relevant to a particular theme. To use the filter click on the drop-down list to display the full list of options, then choose an option and click ‘go’
Reset To blank or clear or return to its original state the information you had on your computer screen.
Restricted network A network which you wish to join, but you cannot view or access it until you have been approved by the moderator.
Rules of professional conduct The minimum standards set by the profession http://www.csp.org.uk/director/effectivepractice/rulesofconduct.cfm

Search Engine A service which takes the strain out of finding information on the internet by using keywords to find content and then providing a list of websites/locations that contain your chosen words.
Search feature on Profession-wide page Use the search feature on the Profession-wide page to search the whole of iCSP quickly, excludes private networks. Search results will allow you to go to that item of content. (See also ‘Keyword search’ and ‘Advanced search’)
Search feature on networks Searches your network interest ONLY – while you are in a particular network, the search will only search that network.
Search feature on Your CSP region Searches your geographical CSP region ONLY – while you are in a particular region, the search feature will only search through that region’s regional content.
Sharing practice - within Your CSP region All geographically relevant sharing practice items pertaining to the area you work and/or live in.
Sharing practice (on iCSP) As per News and Events but also in the interests of people running a project/initiative as it enables others doing similar things to get in touch.
Site highlights Content selected by the system moderator that are important, key and of interest to all, displayed on the Profession-wide page
Site map At-a-glance guide to all the main places you can visit within the iCSP site. Keyboard shortcut ‘ALT’ and ‘M’ then ‘Enter’ button.
Site statistics Latest important facts and figures on usage, displayed on the professsion-wide page.
Source Source displays where on the site the content originated.
Spam Unsolicited emails
Student user Student user can view and contribute to all parts of iCSP. A users student status will be indicated within the added by field of a contribution once the item of content has been published onto the website.
Submit button Submit saves information you have contributed to iCSP.
Submitted for approval Content is now awaiting the moderators attention. Content contributed by you the users is passed to the network moderator for approval. Once approved the content appears.
Subscribe (to a network) To join a network. Simply click on the ‘Your iCSP’ tab and then the ‘Your networks’ link.
Summary Summary describes what an item of content is about. Normally a condensed and concise summary.
Target audience Content can be displayed to only regional audiences if the information is geographically specific. If it is, then you can select one or more regions from the options
Task Bar A bar that normally runs along the bottom of your computer screen and displays the Start button and a list of other programs or windows that are currently active.
Taxonomy Dictionary of words used by iCSP and the CSP.
Terms of service Rules and regulations upon which the iCSP web site will provide a service to you the user and upon which rules and boundaries are set against. All iCSP users accept the Terms of service in order to gain access our site.
Thread All the contributions there have been to one particular discussion are together called a ‘Thread’.
Tick box When you click in a tick box, a tick is placed in it. To remove the tick, click in the box a second time.
Title A descriptive name/heading given to each item of content on the iCSP site. Title is used to list and highlight content in bulletins.
Upload The opposite to download. To send files, programs or data from your computer to the internet/another computer
URL Universal Resource Locator. Usually starting with ‘http:’ or ‘www’, this is the website's address which you type into the Address Bar of your internet browser.
Useful web sites (on iCSP) Listing of web sites that other iCSP users have found interesting and helpful.
User guide Handy step-by-step ‘How To’ guide for using iCSP effectively. Keyboard shortcut ‘ALT’ and ‘U’ then enter. Click here to go to user guide.
User name When you registered to the CSP or iCSP you will have created a user name which is then required as part of the login process.
Your contributions Content you have added to the iCSP site. This can be used to evidence on your CPD. Click here to go to your contributions.
Your CSP region Region upon which you work or live. Your CSP region groups together content on the site that is geographically relevant to you.
Your CSP region homepage Your CSP region has its own homepage, it will enable you to view all content relating to your region whilst highlighting new and important content.
Your iCSP Within this section of iCSP you can change your personal details, network subscriptions and monitored discussions.
Your latest content This is very useful. It lists, in date order, all the content that has recently been added to the various networks you have interests in.
Your networks Update the networks/interests that you have. Doing this will change the networks you see and the information you receive via email.
Your personal details Update your user name, password, email addresses and health authority board on the iCSP web site.
